I’ll be displaying my books and something new, for me at least: audio on flash drives. They’re experimental, but after considerable research I finally found some flash drives with a flat surface on which I could place a small label — just in time to get slapped with tariffs if the product is a hit! I ordered a batch of 50 to play around with, and just as I was congratulating myself, I went to amazon to see about ordering more, and there it was — “only 6 sets left” on the set of 50 and “only 5 sets left” on a set of 25. Obviously the seller is running low on stock because of the tariff situation, but still, I’m going to wait until I get some reaction.
Originally — and I’m talking 15 years ago — I began putting the audio of my interviews on CD. I have a few sets left and hundreds of individual CDs, some of which were defective, and for a few years the sets were very well received, but CDs are in the process of going the way of the dinosaurs, and it’s been several years since cars had CD players. Most cars from the last few years do have USB ports, but in experimenting with the flash drives, I ran into an issue with the tracks not playing in the same order they played on the CDs.
I’m close to working that issue out, and will bring a bunch of prototypes to the Reading World War 2 Weekend, and next weekend to the New Jersey Air Show — another super event if you live in Jersey or nearby New York, with spectacular fireworks and nighttime aerobatics.
In the meantime, here are a few tracks, sans transcripts, from the audio usb’s.
Vern Schmidt of the 90th Infantry Division, from “Kill or Be Killed:
George Noorigian, from “The Kassel Mission”:
Frank Bertram, from “The Kassel Mission”
Dan Diel, from “The Tanker Tapes sampler””
Maurice Tydor, from “D-Day and the Bulge” sampler:
Thanks for listening, and/or reading. Hope to see you at Reading or next weekend at the New Jersey Air Show in West Milford, NJ.
I'll be there. See you at the hangar!
